The project is modelled on an exhibition by Giant Robot in Los Angeles and on the Moleskin Project shown by Spoke-art in San Francisco.
Any Given Post-it is not just a collective exhibition but an experiment regarding identity in which sixty-six Italian and international artists have taken part.
The project has attracted street artists, painters, cartoonists, illustrators, photographers, sculptors, and even an artistic performer. All were asked to create a work of art using the same base, one chosen deliberately to be a far cry from the concept of fine art: the humble post-it note.
Ideally the little yellow note is used to represent the outline of an idea in its most synthetic form; the note is the origin of a complex idea, a creative process. We asked the artists to shape, adapt and integrate the post-it note according to their artistic styles and go beyond their artistic comfort zones to create the most individual and personalized work of art possible.
The artists responded to the challenge. They used the post-it notes to create sculptures; they painted them; they twisted and contorted them; they inserted them into their works of art in the most unexpected ways imaginable.
Identity can therefore be expressed just as forcefully regardless of conditions at the starting block. Here the two conditions imposed on the artists (use of one or more post-it notes and a size limit of 35x35m) were transformed into a common language which led to the telling of 66 completely different stories which we hope you will discover for yourselves from January 31 to February 28.
