Cristiano Carotti lives and works between Rome and Terni, where he was born in 1981.
In 2010, his first solo show is curated by Francesco Santaniello and he’s selected among the finalists of the Italian Factory Prize. On that occasion his work is noticed by the Kunst Magazine Berlin, who publishes the artwork “The Birth of Venus at Burning Hotel”.
In 2011 the Mio Mao gallery of Perugia hosts his second solo show “Sospesi tra il circo e la note”. The exhibition catalogue “Burning Hotel” is published with an introduction made by the Italian songwriter Vinicio Capossela.
Between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012 he works with the Italian actor Filippo Timi, creating the site-specific project “Carte da Favola” for the “Favola” show, directed by the same actor at the Franco Parenti theatre in Milan.
2012 is an important year for the artist: he’s featured in the project “Hasta la Muerte – Fino alla Morte”, previewed at the Affordable Art Fair in Milan; the site-specific project made in collaboration with the artists Pinchi and Deflorio is hosted in the city of Spoleto; he takes part in the group exhibiton Surreality show in Rome curated by Julie Kogler and Sofia F. Miccichè.
2012 is also the year of the first collaboration with Rodrigo D’Erasmo and the music band Afterhours: his work Golyath is exhibited at the Angelo Mai for the Godai Festival, created by Daniele Tortora and Rodrigo d’Erasmo.
2013 begins with two solo shows: “Waterloove” at the Blu di Prussia Gallery in Naples and “Nothing but the Rainbows” at the Canovaccio gallery in Terni.
The same year he’s invited to take part in the project “Hai Paura Del Buio” by Manuel Agnelli from the Afterhours.
In 2014 he takes part with the performer Franko B in the project “Do not follow the White Rabbit!”, presented at SetUp Fair in Bologna.
In 2015 he’s again among the main figures of the “Hai Paura del Buio” Festival.
At the end of the year his work “Italianrocket1861”, curated by Omar Ronda and Philippe Daverio, becomes part of the permanent collection of the M.A.C.I.S.T of Biella.
The same year he works at the project curated by Lorenzo Respi “BLACKSWALLOW V14”, produced by the Al Blu di Prussia gallery and All Around Art Milano. The project is presented at the Venice Biennale 2015 and then in Naples, during his second solo show at the Al Blu di Prussia.
He recently came back from an artistic residency at the la HALLE 14 - Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei, of Leipzig.
